Privacy Policy

Snarky Tiles (snarkytiles.com) is operated by Digital River, LLC, a Utah limited liability company doing business as Snarky Tiles. This policy covers what we collect on the Site, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We sell and ship within the United States, and this policy is written for US law.

The short version: we collect what we need to design, print, and ship your tiles, and to tell people about them. We don't sell your data for money. We do advertise on Meta and Google, and you can switch off the data sharing that involves in one click on Your Privacy Choices.

What we collect

Information you give us:

Account details — your name, email address, and the information needed to secure your account. Your password is stored only as a salted one-way hash, so we never see or keep the password itself; if two-step verification is turned on, we also store the secret that makes it work.
Order details — what you bought, your shipping address, and your order history.
Your designs and images — the artwork and photos you upload or create in the design editor, which we store so we can print your order and so you can reorder later. If you design a set with Madge in the Studio, this also includes your conversation with her, the changes you ask for, any rating you give her, and any reference images you share. More on these below.
Waitlist and marketing signups — your email, if you give it to us.
Support messages — what you send to hello@snarkytiles.com.

Information collected automatically:

Technical information — such as IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, and basic diagnostic and security logs. We use this information for security, fraud prevention, rate limiting, troubleshooting, and understanding how the Site is used.
Cookies and pixels — we use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to operate the Site, keep you signed in, remember essential settings (including your privacy choices), prevent fraud, and measure how the Site is used. Unless you opt out, we also use advertising cookies and pixels from Meta and Google, described in Advertising below.

Information from others: payment confirmation and fraud signals from Stripe. Your card number goes directly to Stripe and never touches our servers — we couldn't store it if we wanted to, which we don't.

How we use it

printing, shipping, and supporting your orders — including sending your designs to our print production system;
designing your set with our AI design assistant, if you use the Studio (see Your uploaded images below);
processing payment, calculating sales tax, and preventing fraud (via Stripe);
transactional email you'd expect: receipts, shipping notices, password resets;
marketing email if you opted in — every one has a one-click unsubscribe;
advertising Snarky Tiles on Meta and Google, including showing our ads to people who have visited the Site and measuring whether those ads work — unless you opt out (see Advertising below);
letting our team know right away when you sign up, place an order, buy a Studio Pass, or tell us Madge missed the mark, so we can help quickly;
understanding how the Site is used, so we can improve it;
security, enforcing our Terms, and complying with law.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information for money, and we share it only as described here. Most of the companies below are service providers that process your data only to provide their service to us (and successor providers performing the same functions). Our advertising partners are different: they also use what they receive for their own purposes, which is why they have their own section and their own opt-out.

Stripe — payments, sales tax, and fraud prevention. Data you provide at checkout is also processed under Stripe's privacy policy.
Our print production system — stores your designs and uploaded images and renders the files we print from.
Vercel and Neon — website hosting and our database.
Sentry — technical error reports when something on the site breaks. A report carries the error, the page and an anonymous identifier; we strip email addresses, form contents and cookies before it is sent. Sentry keeps reports for 90 days.
Cloudflare — file storage for Studio artwork and the reference images you upload.
Anthropic and fal.ai — the AI services behind the Studio. When you design a set with Madge, what you type and any reference images you share are sent to them so they can plan your set's design and generate its tile artwork. fal.ai runs image models built by other companies — currently Google and OpenAI — so your prompts and reference images may also pass through them to make the artwork. fal.ai keeps request data for up to 30 days, and the image files we send it expire after 7 days.
Klaviyo — marketing email and the waitlist, plus account and order activity (such as a completed order) that we use to decide which emails make sense to send you.
Resend — transactional email.
Twilio — text-message alerts to our own team about new signups, orders, Studio Passes, and a Studio rating that says Madge missed. Those texts include your email address; a rating alert also includes the name of your set and the start of any note you wrote with it.
Google — website analytics and advertising (see Cookies & analytics and Advertising below).
Meta — advertising on Facebook and Instagram (see Advertising below).
Shipping carriers — your name and address, so the tiles reach you.

We may also disclose information when required by legal process, to protect our rights or anyone's safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the business (in which case this policy continues to apply to it).

Cookies & analytics

We use Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people use the Site. We may link Google Analytics with our Google Ads account, so we can see which ads lead to visits and orders and — unless you opt out — reach people who have visited the Site. Google's handling of information collected through Analytics and Ads is also governed by Google's applicable privacy terms. You can opt out of Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or your browser's cookie controls. Our Site does not respond to Do Not Track browser signals, but it does honor Global Privacy Control, as explained below.

Advertising, and how to opt out

We advertise on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. To do that, their tags on the Site receive information about your visit: the pages you view; actions you take, such as joining the waitlist, starting checkout, or completing an order (including its value and order number); your IP address, browser, and device details; and cookie or advertising identifiers. When you type your email address into a form on the Site, such as the waitlist, Meta's tag may also send a hashed (one-way scrambled) copy of it, and we may send Meta and Google a hashed copy of the email on an order, so they can match that action to an ad. They use this to deliver and measure our ads, to show our ads to people who have visited the Site, and to find people likely to be interested — and they may combine it with information they already hold about you, under their own policies (Meta, Google).

We never send advertising partners your designs, photos, uploaded images, anything you type to Madge, your birthday, or your shipping address.

Some state privacy laws treat this kind of sharing as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, or as “targeted advertising.” Whatever your state calls it, you can opt out, and it takes effect right away:

visit Your Privacy Choices and switch it off (saved in that browser); or
turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser — we treat that signal as an opt-out automatically.

Once you opt out, our advertising tags stop receiving information about your activity on the Site, and we don't send a hashed copy of your email for orders placed from that browser. Opting out doesn't stop ads altogether, and it doesn't change what Meta or Google already have — manage that in Meta ad preferences and Google My Ad Center. You can also opt out by emailing hello@snarkytiles.com.

Your uploaded images

The photos and artwork you upload are used only to operate the design editor and the Studio, produce your order, and support it (including reprints and reorders). If you share reference images with Madge, they are sent to the AI services named above solely to design and generate your set. We do not use facial recognition or extract biometric information from your images, we do not use your images to train AI models, we never share them with advertising partners, and we do not use or display them in marketing without your explicit permission. Your designs stay associated with your account so you can reorder. Deleting a design takes it out of your account and out of use, but the image files behind it stay in our production storage — an order already on its way to the press still has to be able to render. To have those files actually destroyed, ask us to close your account: How long we keep things sets out exactly what that covers and what it doesn't. If your photos include other people, it's on you to have their OK — see the Terms.

How long we keep things

Account details — while your account is open.
Order and transaction records — what you bought, what you paid, and where it shipped, for as long as required by applicable tax, accounting, legal, and legitimate business-recordkeeping requirements, including after your account is closed.
Designs, uploaded photos, previews, and print files — while your account is open. That is what makes reorders and Tiles for Life work: a replacement tile is printed from your original print file, years later if that is when you need it. Deleting a single design hides it and stops it being used; it does not destroy the underlying files.
When you close your account — we schedule deletion and carry it out 14 days later. During that period you can change your mind and cancel the closure. When the deletion runs, we delete the personalized content associated with your account that we no longer need to retain: uploaded photos, previews, share images, Studio artwork and reference images, and the personalized print files used for reorders and Tiles for Life. Designs you never ordered are destroyed outright — artwork, the words you typed, the layout, all of it. For a design behind an order we actually made, we keep only the record of what that set was (its layout and the words on it) alongside the order record; its images and print files are destroyed, so it can no longer be reprinted. Closing your account therefore ends Tiles for Life. The records we keep are not used to recreate your designs or for marketing.
Marketing information — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Unsubscribing keeps your address on a do-not-email list, which is how we honor it. Closing your account, or asking us to delete your marketing data, deletes your marketing profile entirely — that do-not-email record included — so if you ever sign up for our emails again, you start fresh.
Your advertising opt-out — kept in a cookie in your browser for up to 400 days (the longest browsers allow), or until you clear it. Information Meta and Google receive is kept under their own policies.
Studio requests at our AI services — fal.ai keeps request data (such as the prompts written for your tiles and links to images) for up to 30 days under its own terms, and the image files we send it expire after 7 days. Closing your account doesn't shorten fal.ai's 30 days for requests already made.

Routine backups may retain deleted information temporarily, until those backups age out under our normal backup cycle.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and payment processing handled entirely by Stripe. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — anyone who does is lying to you.

Your choices and rights

Regardless of which state you live in, you can ask us to: tell you what personal information we have about you, correct it, delete what's eligible for deletion, or stop the advertising sharing described above (or switch that off yourself on Your Privacy Choices). Email hello@snarkytiles.com and we'll respond within 30 days; we may need to verify you're you first. Deleting your account runs on the 14-day schedule described above and removes what that section describes — including the files behind Tiles for Life — but not the order and transaction records we are required to keep. Unsubscribe from marketing anytime via the link in any email — it works on the first click. We won't treat you differently for using any of these choices.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect account information directly from children under 13. If we learn we have, we'll delete it. We don't knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. Adult customers may include photos of children in designs they submit; as provided in our Terms, the account holder is responsible for having the authority and consent needed to use those images.

Changes to this policy

We'll post updates here with a new effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle information we've already collected, we'll notify you by email or a prominent notice on the Site before it takes effect — no silent rewrites.
